MD Program Application Process and Timeline

To apply to RUSH Medical College, you must use the American Medical College Application Service, or AMCAS, a centralized medical school application processing service used by most U.S. medical schools. Once RUSH receives your AMCAS application and an initial review of your application has been completed, those select individuals who we will seriously consider for interview will be invited to complete and submit our secondary application. In this invitation, we will specify any additional documentation required to complete your application.

You will be notified by email should you be invited to complete a secondary application.  Interview invitations are also sent by email.

Key application steps

Primary application:

Please submit your American Medical College Application Service,  or AMCAS, application and designate RUSH Medical College as a receiving school. Beginning in early July, AMCAS will download applications to RUSH Medical College on a weekly basis.

Secondary application:

Once RUSH receives your AMCAS application and an initial review of your application has been completed, those select individuals who we will seriously consider for interview will be invited to complete and submit our secondary application. Upon receipt of this invitation, log into the RUSH Medical College Secondary Application website.  With your unique login and token, you will be able to complete the secondary application.

MCAT test scores:

MCAT scores will be released with your AMCAS application. For students applying to matriculate at RUSH in Fall 2024, we will accept MCAT scores from exams administered between January 2021 and September 2023. Outside this time frame, an applicant is required to retake the exam. If multiple MCAT exams are taken, we will review all scores placing emphasis on the highest composite score.

Altus Suites test scores:

Casper, an online situational judgment test administered by Altus Suites, assesses for non-cognitive skills and interpersonal characteristics that are important for successful students and graduates of our program.  Casper will complement the other tools we use for application review and further enhance our robust holistic review process.

  • Casper: For students applying to matriculate at RUSH in Fall 2024, the Casper exam must be taken no later than October 26, 2023.
  • Duet: Submission of Duet exam scores will begin in the 24-25 cycle. The Duet exam complements our mission-based admissions process.

Letters of recommendation:

RUSH Medical College participates in the AMCAS letters service and will only accept letters of recommendation sent through AMCAS. Learn more about submitting letters of evaluation/recommendation to AMCAS and the AMCAS letter service. For additional information regarding RUSH’s letters of evaluation/recommendation process, click here.

Interview day:

The Committee on Admissions will begin extending interview invitations in August and will continue to do so through the month of February. Interviews take place virtually on Wednesdays from September through February.

Should the Committee on Admissions extend an interview invitation, you will schedule an interview appointment using the RUSH Medical College Applicant Portal

Admission decisions:

RUSH Medical College makes every attempt to convey an admissions decision two to three weeks after your interview.

The Committee on Admissions will continue to extend offers of admission until the class is full but no later than the first day of orientation. Applicants who are initially placed on a wait list are re-evaluated periodically and remain eligible for acceptance at any time before the first day of orientation.

Please see our technical guidelines for admissions and promotion for more information. Accepted applicants must read and sign off before they can accept our offer of acceptance.

Criminal background check:

RUSH Medical College enforces the Medical School Matriculant Criminal History Records Check Act, which states: “a medical school located in Illinois must require that each matriculant submit to a criminal history records check for violent felony convictions and any adjudication of the matriculant as a sex offender conducted by the Department of State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of the medical school admissions process.”

This criminal background check will occur through AMCAS once an applicant has been offered an acceptance of admission. We also require a drug screening, which will be administered the first day of orientation.
