Key application steps

Primary application

Submit your application through the American Medical College Application Service, or AMCAS, with Rush Medical College designated as the receiving school.

Secondary application

After our application review, competitive applicants will be invited to submit our secondary application.

MCAT test scores

Scores will be released with your AMCAS application. For students applying for summer of 2027, we accept scores exams administered from January 2024 to September 2026.

Letters of recommendation

Letters must be submitted through AMCAS.

Interview day

Interview invitations for our virtual interview day will begin in August and continue through February. Directions for scheduling your interview will be provided at time of invite.

Admissions decision

We make every attempt to send admissions decisions two to three weeks after your interview. We continue to extend admission offers until the class is full but no later than the first day of orientation.

Applicants on a wait list are re-evaluated periodically and remain eligible for acceptance any time before the first day of orientation.

Review our technical standards for admissions and promotion for more information. Accepted applicants must read and sign off before they can accept an acceptance offer.

Criminal background check

We enforce the Medical School Matriculant Criminal History Records Check Act, which states: “a medical school located in Illinois must require that each matriculant submit to a criminal history records check for violent felony convictions and any adjudication of the matriculant as a sex offender conducted by the Department of State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of the medical school admissions process.”

This criminal background check occurs through AMCAS once an applicant is accepted. We also require a drug screening, which is administered the first day of orientation.
