Honors Received by the Department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery

Our department has received numerous honors. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has granted our team the highest three-star rating for expertise in lobectomies to remove localized lung tumors ― an accomplishment awarded to only 4 percent of programs in the U.S. In addition, Rush University Medical Center is recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care by Blue Cross Blue Shield due to our high quality scores and cost efficiency.

Latest Minimally Invasive Surgery Techniques

Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery department faculty use the latest minimally invasive surgery techniques to improve outcomes and reduce complications, including complex VATS procedures, beating heart surgery, robotic surgery and endoscopic interventional procedures. As part of an academic medical center, our faculty are also involved in research and clinical trials that help uncover and perfect new surgical techniques and approaches.

Because of our dedicated faculty and staff, we are able to nurture a family-like culture in our department. We are committed to the success of our students, residents and fellows and aim to provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to become leaders in our field
