The Alexander Doolas, MD Society has been established for all graduates of the RUSH University General Surgery Residency program as a way to connect to their surgical training roots as well as their mentors, colleague and friends. The society is named in honor of Doolas who has served as a wonderful mentor and role model to our faculty and residents.
Doolas completed medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago and his general surgery residency at RUSH University Medical Center. He has clinical expertise in biliary surgery, cryotherapy, endocrine surgery, esophagectomy, gastrointestinal surgery, hiatal hernia, inguinal hernia, liver surgery, pancreatectomy, radiofrequency ablation and splenectomy. Additionally, he is a professor at RUSH University and he is fluent in Greek.
Alexander Doolas Scholarship for Excellence
Designed for highly qualified fourth-year students from racial and ethnic groups that have been historically underrepresented in medicine, this scholarship opportunity will provide mentoring, networking, and stipend support to one interested and qualified medical student. The RUSH General Surgery Residency Program is offering the awardee a stipend in the amount of $2,000.00 to help defer the costs of flight, lodging and incidental expenses. The awardee will also have the opportunity to complete a 4-week rotation in our surgical residency program. Stipend will be awarded to the medical student who best demonstrates their interest in surgery and academic ability to pursue the rigors of an academic surgical career.
