Providers in the RUSH Department of Surgery excel in delivering a first-class patient experience through tailored, next-generation care and a compassionate bedside approach. As a nationally ranked academic medical center, RUSH also thrives as a leader in clinical and scientific research that paves the way for life-changing surgical treatments for the patients of tomorrow.
We continue to drive leading-edge care across all of our surgical divisions, hiring new faculty and staff to bolster services in our busiest locations while expanding that care to new communities, with new sites in Oak Lawn and Northwest Indiana. As one of the premier plastic and reconstructive surgery programs in the country, RUSH was the first in Chicago to perform a robotic-assisted deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP)-flap surgery. We were also the first hospital in Chicago to use radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of benign thyroid nodules.
Providers in the Department of Surgery come together to support not only our patients, but one another as well. Whether it’s in the operating room, through faculty mentoring or simply a passing hallway conversation, our team’s dedication to supporting one another is tangible and evident in all we do. Every member of our team offers their best effort to each other, and as a result, our patients can receive the very best care in our wide range of surgical specialties, including:
- Colon and rectal surgery
- General surgery, including acute care surgery
- Minimally invasive and bariatric surgery
- Pediatric surgery
- Plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Surgical oncology
- Transplant surgery
Our department also collaborates with area hospitals including John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and NorthShore Skokie Hospital. These affiliations provide our medical students and residents with a wide variety of surgical experiences and introduce them to patients with diverse backgrounds.
