Academics

Clinical and educational training

In the hand surgery fellowship, you'll experience three rotations, four if you choose the shoulder elective. Working closely with faculty, you'll “apprentice” in office and operating room environments, providing high quality continuity of care at RUSH University Medical Center and its affiliates, John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and Shriners Hospital for Children

A complementary educational curriculum will ground you in didactic learning and includes weekly dedicated hand and indications conferences and monthly journal club conferences (for review of current publications and classic articles). Also included are regular cadaveric dissections, intermittent upper extremity lectures (as part of resident core curriculum lectures), department-wide grand rounds and morbidity and mortality conferences, and the option of shoulder lectures as part of the sports medicine fellowship conference.

Research opportunities

You'll be required to participate in research. Funded collaboration with basic scientists, residents and medical students is encouraged to improve refficiency and productivity. Bi-monthly research meetings monitor progress, assure regulatory compliance and troubleshoot potential problems on active projects.
