The CTEI staff works diligently to ensure that the faculty at Rush University has adequate learning technologies at its disposal to engage students in a variety of learning settings.
Below is a current list of technologies available for Rush University Faculty and a description of each tool.
If you do not currently have access to one of these tools, or would like some training, please email CTEI@rush.edu and someone from the CTEI team will help.
Examity: Examity (now part of Meazure Learning) is Rush University's exam proctoring software. There are various types of proctoring available through Examity. Please contact CTEI for more information.
Examsoft: Online (hosted) assessment delivery and analytical tool that is integrated with Canvas. Requires custom testing software (Examplify) which is maintained by D&IS on METC computer labs. Students can also download Examplify on their personal computers for test taking either in class or remotely.
H5P: This software is licensed to the instructional designers in CTEI. They can use it to create a multitude of learning experiences for students, from drag and drop assessments, to "choose your own adventure" type of learning scenarios. It can be used to create amazing drop-down menus and other course organizational items as well. Reach out to an instructional designer if you're interested in trying it.
Panopto: Panopto is a lecture capture and video management tool that allows instructors to record in-class sessions or create stand-alone lectures for flipped or hybrid learning. It supports screen recording, video editing, automatic captioning, embedded quizzes and analytics. Panopto is ideal for delivering high-quality asynchronous content and integrates with Canvas for easy sharing with students.
PollEverywhere: Allows you to create live polls for your students. You can embed them into PowerPoint and other presentations and even use them for online classes.
Respondus Lockdown Browser, Respondus Monitor: Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor are testing security tools integrated with Canvas to help ensure academic integrity during online exams and quizzes within Canvas. LockDown Browser is a custom web browser that restricts students from accessing other websites, applications, or copying/pasting during an exam. Respondus Monitor adds an additional layer of security by using webcam monitoring and AI-based proctoring to deter and detect suspicious test taking behavior. Both tools are supported and maintained by CTEI and D&IS on University lab computers. Students are able to download Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor onto their personal computer for taking remote exams or in class exams.
ScreenPal: (Formerly ScreenCast-O-Matic) ScreenPal is an easy-to-use screen recording and video creation tool that allows faculty to capture on-screen content, webcam video, and audio for lectures, tutorials, and presentations. It supports basic editing, captions, and video hosting options. Faculty interested in using ScreenPal should contact CTEI to request a license and access setup instructions.
SPSS: Statistical software provided through METC computer labs and MyRushPC. Used for instruction by Rush University students, faculty and staff.
Studio (Canvas): Canvas Studio is an interactive media tool integrated with Canvas that allows instructors and students to upload, create, edit (limited), manage, and share audio and video content. Instructors can embed media directly into course materials, add quizzes to videos, and facilitate time-stamped discussions. Students can also create and submit videos for assignments and engage in media-based discussions.
Turnitin.com: Turnitin is an academic integrity tool integrated with Canvas assignments that checks student submissions for potential plagiarism by comparing them against a vast database of academic content, internet sources, and previously submitted papers. While Turnitin is effective for identifying copied or improperly cited text, it does not reliably detect content generated by AI tools. Instructors should use it as one component of a broader academic integrity strategy.
Zoom: Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing platform used for live virtual classes, office hours, meetings, and webinars. It offers features such as screen sharing, breakout rooms, chat, and session recording, and is integrated with Canvas for easy scheduling and course access.
Note: Zoom is not recommended for recording asynchronous lectures, as its recordings are optimized for live interaction rather than content quality. For higher-quality, on-demand lecture recordings, tools like Panopto or Canvas Studio are better suited for asynchronous lecture recordings.
