Resident Life in Chicago

Chicago is an incredible city. Our residents live in a diverse set of neighborhoods and enjoy all the activities that the Chicagoland area has to offer. Some favorite activities include the following:

  • Lakefront trails, beaches, and harbors
  • Ever-changing restaurant and night life scene
  • Year-round concerts, shows and summer festivals
  • Chicago Symphony Orchestra: Through a special affiliation, residents may attend for free serving as “Doctor of the House”
  • Local sports: Bulls (Rush-affiliated), Sky, White Sox (Rush-affiliated), Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Fire, and Stars

Living in Chicago

Chicago is extremely affordable compared to other major cities. A majority of residents live within a two-mile radius of Rush. Popular neighborhoods include River North, West Loop, South Loop, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Lincoln Park, and Old Town.

Post Basic Exam Celebration: In June, we proudly celebrate the hard work and dedication of our CA1 residents. After months of focused preparation, countless hours of studying, and unwavering commitment, their efforts have finally paid off. What better way to honor this achievement than with a department-sponsored Post Basic Exam Celebration?

Mentor Meet-Up: Smaller group of residents meet-up with their mentor outside of the medical center enjoying what Chicago has to offer. Whether it's a home cooked meal, enjoying a beer at a local brewery or releasing stress while throwing an ax, residents get to know one another and their mentor on a more personal basis. These gatherings also can become teaching moments by discussing resident life and becoming a successful anesthesiologist.
