Mentorship

We have made some recent changes to our mentoring system.  New for 2025-2026 academic year, we divided the residents and attendings into one of our four noble Houses: Furdoonji, Stoelting, Marx and Apgar.  Each house represents a unique legacy, a distinct mission statement, and set of values. Residents and faculty will compete and collaborate through acts of excellence, education, and engagement to bring glory to their house. We will have individual House events and all House events throughout the year and points will be awarded for various academic, educational, and clinical activities.  At the end of the academic year, pride and our beautiful House cup will be bestowed on the House with the most points. 

  • House Furdoonji – The Pioneers
    • Founder: Dr. Rupa Bai Furdoonji 
    • Values: Courage, Trailblazing, Diversity, Determination
    • Personality: Bold, resilient, unconventional
    • Mascot: Cobra 
    • Colors: Yellow and Navy Blue 
    • Slogan: "Where no one has gone, we go."
    • The first female anesthesiologist, Furdoonji’s legacy lives on in this house of innovators, disruptors, and barrier-breakers.
  • House Stoelting – The Guardians
    • Founder: Dr. Robert Stoelting
    • Values: Safety, Vigilance, Ethical Practice, Systems Thinking
    • Personality: Meticulous, principled, forward-thinking
    • Mascot: Dragon 
    • Colors: Green & Black
    • Slogan: "On guard, defending every breath"
    • House Stoelting champions the values of the APSF and the high standards set in his work on pharmacology and patient safety. Its members are protectors of patients and protocols alike.
  • House Marx – The Teachers
    • Founder: Dr. Gertie Marx
    • Values: Mentorship, Scholarship, Innovation in Teaching
    • Personality: Curious, articulate, compassionate educators
    • Mascot: Owl
    • Colors: Red & Gold
    • Slogan: “Knowledge shared is power squared.”
    • Mother of OB Anesthesia. A house for natural teachers and academic leaders who value lifelong learning and structured thinking.
  • House Apgar – The Clinicians
    • Founder: Dr. Virginia Apgar
    • Values: Precision, Resilience, Rapid Response, Clinical Foresight
    • Personality: Calm under pressure, detail-oriented, patient-first
    • Mascot: Falcon
    • Colors: Sky Blue & White
    • Slogan: "Always ready, always watching."
    • Mother of Neonatal Anesthesia. Inspired by the creator of the Apgar score, this house thrives in high-stakes situation, especially critical care.
