Meet Our Residents

 Name and Background

Elizabeth Polsdofer, PhD

Elizabeth Polsdofer, PhD

Medical Physics Resident, Third Year

Education:

PhD, Biomedical Engineering - Medical Physics, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center

MS, Medical Physics, Oregon Health Science University

Research Area:  Quality Improvement, Mathematical Oncology

Biography:  Elizabeth enjoys the multidisciplinary aspect of medical physics.  For her doctoral research, she performed research in a molecular radiation biology laboratory where she learned tissue culture and how to conduct animal studies.  These techniques became the cornerstone of her dissertation and allowed her to better understand how response to radiation is affected by the dose delivered and tumor biology.  She joined the Department of Radiation Oncology as a medical physics resident in July 2023.

Andy Ogilvy, PhD

Medical Physics Resident, Second year

Education:

PhD, Medical Physics, University of British Columbia, Canada

MSc, Medical Physics, University of British Columbia, Canada

BSc, Physics, University of British Columbia, Canada

Research Area:

3D Dosimetry, Optical CT, Ray Tracing Simulation

Biography:

Andy completed a PhD in Medical Physics, designing and creating an optical CT scanner for use on 3D dosimeters. The design utilized an in-house ray tracing simulator to reconstruct refracted images through iterative reconstruction.  He joined the Department of Radiation Oncology as a medical physics resident in July 2024.

Yuan Shao, PhD

Medical Physics Resident, First Year

Education:

Postgraduate Certificate, Medical Physics, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

PhD, Public Health (Occupational Health and Epidemiology), University of Minnesota, Twin Cities

BS, Biomedical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, China

Research Area:

Cancer epidemiology and Outcomes research in radiotherapy

Biography:

Prior to joining Rush, Yuan was a faculty member in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois Chicago. His research studied the relationship between occupational exposures and lung diseases among U.S. workers. He has published over 35 peer-reviewed papers. He was also a member of the UIC MinER Center, working closely with pulmonologists and epidemiologists on the prevention of black lung disease among U.S. miners.  He joined the Department of Radiation Oncology as a medical physics resident in July 2025.
