The primary care sports medicine fellowship is a one-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited program providing intensive training in sports medicine and musculoskeletal conditions. It is centered in the departments of Family Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery at RUSH University Medical Center. RUSH is nationally known for orthopedic and sports medicine excellence and for outstanding patient care, research, and training.
Our rigorous and comprehensive curriculum complements hands-on experience in a wide variety of settings. You'll work closely with sports-medicine physicians and faculty trained in internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and orthopedic surgery. You'll learn to confidently care for athletes and active individuals at every level, from providing pre-participation physicals, to treating on-field injuries, to the evaluation, diagnosis, and non-operative treatment of a full range of conditions.
You'll learn to determine the appropriateness of non-operative or operative care. With a goal of restoring patients to pre-injury function, you will build competence in the diagnosis and management of sports-related injuries and illnesses and also implement wellness programs focused on good nutrition, weight maintenance and injury prevention techniques.
In addition, you'll have the opportunity to provide treatment for athletes and individuals at all skill levels. RUSH provides team coverage for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Red Stars, DePaul University athletic program, Chicago Steel, the Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street and River North dance companies, and others.
