Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is committed to providing state-of-the-art care delivered with compassion and expertise informed by leading-edge science, which is at the center of our research and academic activities. This is an exciting time in the field of psychiatry, and our department — one of the premier programs in American psychiatry — is a proud and important contributor to this process.

Advances in understanding of the processes that underlie psychiatric disorders hold promise for novel diagnostic techniques and therapeutics that will enable us to provide even more effective treatment for our patients. A key strength of our program is the opportunity to engage the broad expertise and resources throughout Rush University. Our faculty have strong working relationships with colleagues across the medical center, which benefits our patients, trainees and research efforts.

Our educational mission includes molding our students, residents and fellows into the next generation of leaders in our field. Yet it goes further to include our commitment to educating patients and their families so they can be active and informed participants in their care. In addition, we are committed to public education and advocacy around decreasing the stigma that may prevent some from seeking and receiving the care that they need and deserve.
