The Rush Substance Use Disorder Center of Excellence (SUD-COE) is a statewide initiative dedicated to improving the prevention, identification, treatment, and recovery of individuals with substance use disorders through education, workforce development, clinical support, and community partnerships. Housed within Rush University Medical Center, the SUD-COE collaborates with healthcare organizations, community agencies, academic institutions, faith-based organizations, public school systems, and state partners to expand access to evidence-based substance use disorder care throughout Illinois.
Community Behavioral Health provides mental and behavioral health care in collaboration with community health care and social service organizations.
The faculty and staff of Community Behavioral Health are drawn from psychiatry, medicine, social work, nursing and psychology.
Faculty and staff partner with clinics across the Rush Health system and have also established collaborations with the Medical Home Network, The Night Ministry, several school-based health clinics and other community initiatives.
Community Behavioral Health provides professional training and education programs for trauma recovery, with a special interest in promoting healing of communities that have been systemically marginalized.

Through Project ECHO® telementoring, continuing education, technical assistance, and clinical consultation, the SUD-COE equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality, person-centered care. The Center also provides education and outreach to faith communities and public schools, increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery among educators, staff, students, families, and community members.
By strengthening both the healthcare and community workforce, the Rush SUD-COE is advancing equitable access to evidence-based substance use disorder prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction services while improving health outcomes across Illinois.
