Fun in the Sun Student Summer Activities

Join the Office of Student Life & Engagement and your fellow summer students for this fun serious of programs available to all Rush University students who are in session over the summer months.

A full schedule of events for the 2018 summer semester can be found below. Events will be added throughout the summer, so check back often! Some events do require pre-registration and a small fee. If you have any questions about individual events, please contact student_life@rush.edu.

Art Institute of Chicago FREE Admission

We encourage all Rush University students to take advantage of their FREE membership to the Art Institute of Chicago throughout the summer months! Students can always get into the Art Institute for free by showing their student ID. A current listing of the Art Institute’s summer exhibits can be found HERE.

Come grab a snack and bottle of sunscreen while learning more about Student Life & Engagement’s summer schedule of events, including a variety of educational and social opportunities, including a cooking class, outdoor movie, White Sox game and boat tour!

Welcome Back Luncheon

Enjoy a welcome back luncheon featuring a southern comfort menu with fried chicken and all the fixin’s. Lunch provided for the first 150 students.

Get Involved at Rush

Whether you are a new student this term or a returning student looking to get involved, stop by this session to learn more about student organizations, student affinity groups and community service opportunities here at Rush and how you can get involved as both a member and leader. This session is presented by the Student Life & Engagement and Student Diversity & Multicultural Affairs offices. Light refreshments will be provided.

CV Workshop (Doctoral Students)

Wednesday, June 20

Noon to 1 p.m.

AAC 1098

Begin to craft your Doctoral-level CV by attending this session. Students will have the opportunity to learn what should be included on their CV, how to properly format their CV, and how to best market their skills to a future employer. Lunch provided for the first 50 students.

Massage Studio

Enjoy a relaxing neck massage and some tea and treats as part of our Massage Studio to help relieve stress from midterms and finals!

Cooking Class

Wednesday, June 27

Room 500, Billings-Herrick

Join our partners from Rush’s Food and Nutrition Department as they demonstrate important techniques to make an exciting 3-course meal. This summer’s menu will focus on speciality-crafted vegan food. Students will get to both participate in the demonstration and enjoy lunch! Pre-registration required; to register, please email student_life@rush.edu

Ice Cream Cart

Cool down with an ice cream treat after your busy holiday weekend! The ice cream cart will be stationed in the Student Lounge (AAC 992) so students can grab a treat during their lunch time break.

Join fellow students to watch the popular flick “Blockers” under the summer sky while enjoying the best movie snacks!

White Sox Game

Friday, July 13

Guaranteed Rate Field (333 W. 35th Street, Chicago IL)

7 p.m. Game Time

Take me out to the ballgame! Attend the White Sox Game versus the Kansas City Royals  on Friday, July 13 in celebration of College and University Night! Tickets will be available for purchase through Student Life & Engagement and will be $5 per person (max of 2 per student). Fireworks will be shown following the game! Transportation to the field is the responsibility of the student and guest.

Begin to craft your resume by attending this session. Bachelors and masters level students will discover which sections they can include on their resume, different resume formats, and how to best market their skills. Lunch provided for the first 50 students.

Architectural Boat Tour

Board the Wendella pier at 400 N Michigan Ave.

Learn more about Chicago’s architecture while enjoying time on the Chicago River during an exciting boat tour! Tickets will be available for purchase through Student Life & Engagement and will be $10 per person (max of 2 per student).  Tickets will go on sale shortly.

Summer BBQ

Thursday, August 9

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rush Healing Garden

Wrap up the semester at our summer BBQ featuring all the best summer-time foods! Students will enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, chips, fruit and cookies along with a free summer-themed giveaway item. Lunch will be available to the first 200 students.

Finals Relief

Monday, August 13-August 17

Take a break during finals week and from studying with a variety of events including a hot breakfast and snack break. Additional details available soon.
