Richard M. Wiet, MD, is head of the Section of Otology, Neurotology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery at Rush University and is an associate professor in the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and Neurosurgery. Wiet received his medical degree from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago and completed a residency in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. After his residency, he completed a two-year accredited fellowship in otology, neurotology and skull base surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During his fellowship, Wiet received a European Skull Base Society Fellows Award and an American Neurotology Society Fellows Award. An interest in lateral skull base disease management led him to Gruppo Otologico in central Italy, where he worked closely with Mario Sanna, MD, a leader in the field of lateral skull base surgery.
Board-certified in otolaryngology and neurotology, Wiet specializes in the comprehensive management of acoustic neuroma and lateral skull base tumors; pediatric and adult implantable hearing devices, including cochlear implants; bone anchored hearing aids; and pediatric and adult general otology. Wiet's research involves acoustic neuromas, implantable hearing devices and otosclerosis. Wiet is a member of many professional societies, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Neurotology Society and the North American Skull Base Society.
