Adan Becerra has a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and a BA from The University of Chicago in biology and statistics. He most recently worked as a Senior Epidemiologist for an NIH contractor in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Becerra’s research interests include variation in quality of care, comparative effectiveness, disparities, and payment system innovations in general surgery and surgical oncology. He has expertise in deploying complex multilevel models to measure variation in patient outcomes across individual providers and hospitals in order to understand how systemic factors influence the quality and delivery of care given to surgery patients. He is interested in applying a public and population health perspective to surgical outcomes research in order to optimize health and treatment options among surgical populations. The Department intends for Becerra to partner with all divisions to strategize and grow their surgical outcomes research portfolio.
