The Stuttering Therapy and Applied Research (STAR) Lab at Rush University is a home for all things stuttering in the Chicagoland area. The STAR Lab has four overlapping goals:
- Therapy – in affiliation with the Dr. Emily Q. Wang SCOPE Speech & Hearing Clinic, we provide specialized speech-language pathology services to individuals of all ages for stuttering and other fluency differences. Our approach to therapy considers the whole person, including the physical, emotional, and social aspects of stuttering. Learn more about the SCOPE Speech & Hearing Clinic here.
- Community – we are connected with larger stuttering support communities and events that meet in Chicago, across the country, and worldwide. If you or a loved one stutters, there are many resources that we want to help you access.
- Research – led by Dr. Ryan Millager, our research aims to advance understanding of stuttering and its treatment through collaboration with families. We make use of advanced digital tools and specialize in working with young children and their caregivers.
- Advocacy – we support people who stutter through a range of advocacy and education activities. Our efforts include educating future generations of speech-language pathologists, reaching out to pediatricians and other health care professionals, and creating materials for the general public to cultivate a more accepting world for people who stutter.
If you are interested in getting connected for therapy, research participation or any of the above activities, email Dr. Ryan Millager, PhD, CCC-SLP.
