Rush Medical College's Sumner Named President of Orthopaedic Research Society

D. Rick Sumner, PhD, the Mary Lou Bell McGrew Presidential Professor for Medical Research and chairperson of the Rush Medical College Department of Cell & Molecular Medicine, was recently named president of the Orthopaedic Research Society.

Sumner has more than 25 years of National Institutes of Health funding as a principal investigator on research, training and instrumentation grants. His research focuses mainly on bone regeneration as related to orthopedic implants, understanding how matrix maturation contributes to bone quality, and the role of bone in osteoarthritis. He directs also the Rush MicroCT and Histology Core Laboratory.

An accomplished educator, Sumner has taught gross anatomy at Rush University and is president-elect for the American Association of Anatomists.
