  • Robert J. Dawe, PhD, is a biomedical engineer with the RUSH Alzheimer’s Disease Center and assistant professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. Before joining the RADC in 2011, he completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he specialized in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the human brain.

    Dawe is interested in leveraging new technologies to provide a unique window into the underlying biology of age-related cognitive decline and mobility impairments, including those associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. As part of these efforts, Dawe helped to establish the RADC’s postmortem brain imaging platform, which now provides novel metrics on brain health. He also leads a team of four engineers who are responsible for implementing wearable devices and other emerging technologies to more fully characterize mobility and other behaviors in large numbers of study participants. Dawe contributes to several RADC investigators’ NIH-funded studies on aging and dementia and is also pursuing NIH funding for his own line of research.
