Wellness for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists
Increasing and sustaining membership in professional associations
Challenges faced by late career Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists
Cynthia “Cindy” Farina, DNP, CRNA, CNE is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Assistant Professor in the Rush College of Nursing, Nurse Anesthesia DNP Program. She has served as clinical and didactic instructor for the Oakland University-Beaumont Graduate Program of Nurse Anesthesia, where she has taught courses on principles of neuroanesthesia, respiratory physiology, and wellness.
Farina has served as chair of the Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA) Wellness Committee where she was committed to sharing ways to meet physical and emotional challenges of anesthesia practice with CRNAs and student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs). The committee’s work focused on stress reduction, sleep deprivation and fatigue management, and substance use disorders. Farina was also chair of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Health and Wellness Committee for the 2020 fiscal year. As part of her work on this committee, she helped launch an exploration of career transitions and associated challenges in nurse anesthesia practice. Members of the AANA Health and Wellness committee collectively developed resources and publications related to clinical burnout and suicide prevention for CRNAs and SRNAs.
Farina’s personal interests include fitness classes, biking, reading, cooking, American and European history and Big Ten college football.
