The General Surgery Residency Program has implemented STRIVES (Surgical Trainee for Innovation in Value and Environmental Stewardship). This non-accredited “fellowship” is a huge endeavor towards “Greening OR” initiatives, including tray optimization, powering down equipment, and improving waste segregation. This will help identify and train future champions in operating room sustainability and elevate RUMC DoS’s national profile as a leader in sustainability.
This will be a 1-year fellowship program that begins each July. Eligible applicants will be in their PGY1-PGY4 year at RUMC. Each resident may serve as a “Sustainability Fellow” for only one academic year. We plan to expand this initiative and offer to residents from other programs that complete rotations with our services.
