Family Nurse Practitioner (NP)
As a RUSH-educated Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, you will be prepared to deliver comprehensive primary health care to individuals across the lifespan. Our program also focuses on the importance of population health and social determinants of health. Much of the coursework and clinical experiences are taught and facilitated by practicing faculty in the practitioner-teacher model. This means many program advisors and clinical faculty are practicing nurse practitioners with a vast amount of clinical experience that will enrich your learning.
You will be educated to be leaders in your field, with a focus on both clinical excellence as a provider, as well as preparation to lead initiatives to improve health outcomes of patients. Usually working in community settings, RUSH FNP DNPs:
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions
- Emphasize preventive care and promote healthy lifestyle choices
- Educate and collaborate with patients in managing chronic health issues
- Lead teams to implement quality improvement strategies in their health care settings for populations of interest
