Introduction
Our Master of Science (MS) in Cardiovascular Perfusion Program prepares you for a career as an advanced perfusionist.
As a perfusionist, you are an integral member of the cardiovascular surgical team.
You will provide support in the operating room and in any situation when patient cardiopulmonary and circulatory function needs support.
You’ll also train to be a leader in your chosen specialization, whether it’s education, research or clinical.
After graduating, you are qualified to sit for the certification examination of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

MS in Cardiovascular Perfusion Program length and location
Our two-year program, 78-credit MS in Cardiovascular Perfusion Program takes place in person on campus in Chicago.
The rigorous curriculum includes coursework and clinical field work, which are completed at Rush University and its affiliated clinical sites.

Graduates are highly sought after and are successfully employed in the Chicago area and nationwide.
Graduates work in a variety of settings, including the following:
- Community hospitals
- Major medical centers
- Private perfusion groups
- Physician and surgeon groups
- Teaching institutions
Many perfusionists are eligible to advance to positions as chief perfusionists and perfusion program directors.
Perfusionists with research skills may collaborate on projects with physicians and researchers.
