CON Appointment & Promotion Dossier Requirements

Required Documentation and Protocol for Appointment/Reappointment/Promotion for all Ranks 

 

Instructor  / Assistant Professor
Dossier
  • Chair request letter documenting continuing efforts in each category of criteria at rank 
  • Current CV 
Protocol
Applies to:  Appointment, Reappointment, and Promotion
 
  1. Submit Dossier to Department Chairperson 
  2. Department chairperson gets input from Department Faculty Advisory Committee 
  3. Department Faculty Advisory Committee makes recommendation to Department Chair 
  4. Department Chairperson submits recommendation to Dean 
  5. Dean submits recommendation to Faculty Senate 
  6. If approved by Faculty Senate, Dean and Provost approval letters are provided to Faculty Member 
Associate Professor / Professor

Dossier

  • Chair request letter documenting continuing efforts in each category of criteria at rank 
  • Current CV 

External Review Names* 

*Work with Department Chair to generate list of at least four external reviewers 

  • Criteria for External reviewers: 
    • Knowledgeable in the applicant’s field 
    • Of equal or higher rank than the one being sought 
    • Able to evaluate the individual’s accomplishments relative to rank criteria 
    • Reviewers should be able to provide an objective evaluation of the applicant’s scholarly work and would not include previous/current supervisors, employers, or faculty peers of the applicant 

Protocol
Applies to: Appointment, Promotion
Senior reappointments follow same procedure as Instructor/Assistant Professor protocol except the reappointment request has to go to the Appointments and Promotions Committee for review 

  1. Submit Dossier to Department Chairperson 
  2. Department Chair submits dossier to Department Faculty Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee makes recommendation to Department Chair
  3. Department chairperson contacts at least three of the external reviewers 
    1. Sends Rush CON appointment/promotions criteria, candidate’s dossier (CV, documentation of qualifications for rank, and 2-3 representative articles authored by the candidate) 
    2. Requests a letter of recommendation and a copy of the reviewer’s CV 
    3. Letters of recommendation should state how Rush CON promotion criteria are met and are returned to the Department Chair 
  4. Department Chair writes letter of support and submits with dossier and external review letters to Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee 
  5. Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee submits recommendation to Dean 
  6. Dean submits recommendation to Faculty Senate 
  7. If approved by Faculty Senate, dean forwards recommendation to Provost 
  8. Dean and Provost approval letters are provided to Faculty Member 
Non-primary Ranks / Joint
Dossier
  • Chair request letter documenting continuing efforts in each category of criteria at rank 
  • Current CV

  1. Submit Dossier to Department Chairperson 
  2. Department chairperson gets input from Department Faculty Advisory Committee 
  3. Department Faculty Advisory Committee makes recommendation to Department Chair 
  4. Department Chairperson submits recommendation to Dean
    1. For Senior Ranks, Department Chairperson sends reappointment request to Appointments and Promotions Committee for review and the committee submits recommendation to Dean
  5. Dean submits recommendation to Faculty Senate 
  6. If approved by Faculty Senate, Dean and Provost approval letters are provided to Faculty Member
