Data Management

The division of Research Regulatory Information Services (IS) team at Rush University provides technical support for key applications/systems involving clinical research, animal research, and basic and translation sciences research. IS also provides support for researchers and staff to conduct research via five digital platforms. Learn more about the features of each one.

Rush Research Portal

The Rush Research Portal provides access to Institutional Review Board (IRB) functions. Researchers can do the following there:

  • Begin their research projects
  • Track their submission and regulatory approvals
  • Search for funding opportunities and request for funding support
OnCore: Clinical trial management system

The OnCore application is used to manage studies involving prospective human subject clinical research. The system can do the following:

  • Standardize the activation process of studies
  • Provide various reporting tools to assist with departmental reporting needs
  • Track the progression of a study all the way to closeout
  • Track subject accruals for any study that has a potential of billing
eRAM: Electronic Rush Animal Management

Operated within the Comparative Research Center (CRC), eRAM organizes animal test subject needs. It can do the following:

  • Help streamline protocol submissions to the Institutional Animal Care and Use board (IACUC)
  • Automate animal ordering within the CRC
  • Track training requirements
  • Provide greater communication for PIs, lab techs and administrators for animal protocols
REDCap: Research Electronic Data Capture

REDCap is an application used in collecting data for research. It can do the following:

  • Support online and offline electronic data capture for research studies and operations
  • Facilitate building and managing online surveys and databases
  • Work for collecting virtually any type of data in any environment (including compliance with HIPPA)
LabArchives: Electronic research notebook

LabArchives is a secure electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) for researchers, managers and associated personnel. It provides a free, secure way to organize, store and share research data and documents.

Additional services and support

Beyond support for primary digital platforms for research, IS also provides the following support services.

System design and infrastructure management

The system design and infrastructure management division manages all aspects of application development, including the following:

  • Runs security scans
  • Performs hardware and software installation and upgrades
  • Performs application testing
  • Maintains external vendor management and communications
  • Maintains account provisioning, disaster recovery, server and database management and custom reporting/dashboarding
Training courses and customer support

The division provides customer support by troubleshooting issues, answering system-related questions and assisting with any service requests. Research IS also offers a variety of training courses to gain access to the research applications.
