  • Laura Zimmermann, MD, MS, is a primary care internist with expertise in lifestyle medicine, preventive medicine, and quality improvement. As Medical Director, she leads a multidisciplinary lifestyle medicine clinic that focuses on preventing and managing chronic illnesses through the integration of medical care with interventions on health behaviors, including healthy eating, physical activity, smoking cessation, treatment adherence, and stress management. At the institutional level, she leads quality improvement initiatives in cancer and tobacco cessation. She is co-chair of a multi-disciplinary group that coordinates and facilitates tobacco cessation initiatives for patients, employees, students, and community members across the Rush University System for Health. She is the Community Outreach Coordinator for Rush’s Cancer Center, overseeing achievement of standards in cancer prevention, screening, and outreach, and sustaining accreditation by the American College of Surgeons. Her research includes medical leadership on clinic-based recruitment strategies and clinic-based lifestyle counseling for a multi-site trial of lifestyle approaches for the remission of the metabolic syndrome, and on a community health worker intervention to improve hypertension control in church members on Chicago’s West Side. She is in the process of becoming Board Certified in Lifestyle Medicine.
