Calcium release mediated by IP3R and RyR channels, mechanisms of local calcium control in cells
Josefina Ramos-Franco, MD, PhD, researches the phenomenon of intracellular calcium release in excitable cells. Specifically, her lab focuses on understanding calcium release mediated by IP3R and RyR channels and the mechanisms of local calcium control in cells. To this end, her team uses a multidisciplinary approach from the cellular to the molecular levels. This approach utilizes laser-scanning confocal microscopy, loose patch photolysis, site-directed mutagenesis and ion channel reconstitution into planar lipid bilayers.
