James Ertle, MD, practices medical as well as surgical dermatology, with a special interest in skin cancer, pediatric dermatology and tropical diseases. In February 2016, he joined the Rush Dermatology Patient Services medical practice. Ertle was board-certified in Dermatology in 1973 and voluntarily recertified by examination in 1999. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and studied medicine at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Following internship at St. Louis University Hospitals, Ertle did his dermatology residency as well as a fellowship in immunology at the University of Chicago. After residency, he served in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps as a lieutenant commander during the Vietnam era. Ertle has been in private practice in Hinsdale since 1972. Since 1974, he has been an assistant professor of in the Department of Dermatology at Rush University and a clinical instructor of dermatology at the Hinsdale Hospital family practice program.

He was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, Noah Worcester Dermatological Society, Foundation for International Dermatological Education, Dermatology Foundation and the International Society of Dermatology. Ertle was past president of the Chicago Dermatological Society, the Illinois State Dermatological Society, the Great Lakes Dermatological Society and the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society. He was also the past vice president of the International Society of Dermatology. Ertle served as a consultant in Dermatology to the AMA Drug Evaluation 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th editions and the Editorial Board of Chicago Medicine, 1985-1989. He is an author of six publications.
