Hemil Gonzalez, MD is an NIH-sponsored researcher whose work in the Al-Harthi Lab focuses on the effects of antiretroviral drugs on immune cells and glial cells of the central nervous system (CNS) as well as peripheral immune cells and their trafficking between these two compartments. He is an active member of the AIDS clinical trials group (ACTG) and the recipient of the 2019-2021 minority HIV investigator mentoring program (MHIMP) award. His clinical research interests include the penetration and distribution of antiretroviral drugs in the CNS and point of care diagnostics for neurosyphilis.
