Gary D. Steinberg, MD, has dedicated his career to the advancement of bladder cancer education, research and treatment.
A national authority in the surgical treatment of bladder cancer and continent urinary tract reconstruction, Steinberg has performed more than 2,500 radical cystectomies. He is well-known for his specialization in re-operative procedures for patients whose prior surgery failed, using novel techniques to restore normal urinary function.
Additionally, Steinberg is the immediate past chairperson of the scientific advisory board of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network. He is a recognized expert in translational bladder cancer research as well as innovative clinical trials. He is a pioneer in the use of blue light cystoscopy to detect and remove early stage bladder cancer. A prolific researcher, Steinberg has made significant contributions to our understanding of both non-muscle invasive and invasive bladder cancer, and serves as the principal investigator on numerous clinical trials, working to identify new novel therapies as well as molecular biomarkers to detect the disease. He serves on numerous scientific advisory boards with the biotech and the pharmaceutical industry as well as with the FDA and National Cancer institute.
Steinberg has authored or coauthored more than 200 articles in journals such as Journal of Urology, Urology, and Urologic Oncology, as well as nearly two dozen chapters for medical textbooks. Currently, he serves on the editorial board of the multiple urologic oncology journals.
