Ephrem Olweny, MD, specializes in endourology and minimally invasive urology, with a keen clinical and academic research interest in kidney stone disease as well as benign disorders of the upper urinary tract. He employs the full spectrum of advanced minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of complex kidney stone disease, including percutaneous nephrolithotomy with self-obtained access, complex ureteroscopic lithotripsy and robotic surgery. Clinically, Olweny manages the full spectrum of general urologic disease and strives to comprehend the full burden of urologic disease for each patient in order to provide the highest level of evidence-based, state-of-the-art care.

Academically, Olweny's interests lie in assessing the impact of minimally invasive therapies for stone disease on patient quality of life and disease burden, understanding the changing epidemiology of stone disease, and in evaluating strategies for optimization of treatment outcomes. Olweny completed a research fellowship under the direction of Ralph Clayman, MD, a pioneer in minimally invasive urologic surgery. He has published extensively in this area, with more than 65 journal publications and three book chapters to date.
