  • Christy Howard-Steele is a Certified Educator in the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) in the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) and an ordained minister endorsed by the Federation of Christian Ministries. After completing her residency training, she worked as a staff chaplain for eight years before embarking on the journey to become a certified educator at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL. She joined RUSH shortly after becoming a certified educator in 2019.

    Howard-Steele holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Oberlin College, two Masters of Science degrees from Carnegie Mellon University (one in Statistics; one in Public Policy and Management), and a Masters of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She has been active in the greater Specialized Ministries community having served as Region 5 (Illinois & Wisconsin) Certification Chair in APC and as endorsing agent for the Federation of Christian Ministries. Topics of interest and study include Relational Cultural Theory, Embodied Learning, Trauma-Informed Care, and Social Determinants of Health. Prior to entering professional ministry, Howard-Steele worked as a Property Casualty Actuary (FCAS) for more than 20 years. She is a Chicago-area native, born and raised in Evanston, IL. She is married with three adult children and two granddaughters.
