Christy Howard-Steele is a Certified Educator in the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) in the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) and an ordained minister endorsed by the Federation of Christian Ministries. After she completed her residency training she worked as a staff chaplain for eight years before embarking on the journey to become a certified educator at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL. She joined Rush shortly after becoming a certified educator in 2019. She holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Oberlin College, two Masters of Science degrees from Carnegie Mellon University (one in Statistics; one in Public Policy and Management), and a Masters of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She has been active in the greater Specialized Ministries community having served as Region 5 (Illinois & Wisconsin) Certification Chair in APC and as endorsing agent for the Federation of Christian Ministries. Topics of interest and study include Relational Cultural Theory, Embodied Learning, Trauma-Informed Care, and Social Determinants of Health. Prior to entering professional ministry, Christy worked as a Property Casualty Actuary (FCAS) for more than 20 years. Christy is a Chicago-area native, born and raised in Evanston, IL. She is married with three adult children and two granddaughters.
