Dr. Amber Kujath’s clinical work as a certified Orthopedic Nurse provides the underpinnings for her research interest in bone health. During her doctoral studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, she worked with diabetes experts in nursing science and epidemiology. Her work includes both bone density and biomarkers for bone turnover in women with and without Type 1 diabetes.
Kujath’s primary teaching responsibilities are in the basic science courses – primarily pathophysiology – in the DNP and GEM programs, common health conditions across the lifespan in the GEM program, and DNP advisement.
Since 2015 she has served as the Chapter Treasurer for the local Medical Center Chapter of National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) and since 2018 as a national Director. In 2021 she became the President-Elect of NAON. She continues to serve on the editorial board of the Orthopaedic Nursing Journal and was a past member of the research committee for NAON. From 2011 – 2017 Kujath served as a director and president of the Orthopaedic Nursing Certification Board. She is also a member of the American Diabetes Association Illinois Camp Committee and has volunteered as part of the health care team at residential camp since 2006.
