Amanda Lee Persons, PhD, is an educator-scientist in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. Her teaching responsibilities in the didactic year of the PA Program include physiology, clinical pharmacology and research and statistics. Educational research areas of interest include effective pharmacology education and substance abuse and prevention education. As a member of the Center for Compulsive Behavior and Addiction, Dr. Persons conducts preclinical research in collaboration with T. Celeste Napier, PhD, on substance abuse and neurological disorders. Specific research areas of interest include medication development for opioid use disorder and amphetamine use disorder, substance abuse and HIV comorbidity, risk factors and biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease, nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, and impulse control disorders.
