Amanda LaMonica-Weier received her undergraduate degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in Hispanic Studies and Political Science. She taught secondary Spanish for several years in Chicago Public Schools while she earned her master’s degree in Teaching from Dominican University. She then made a career change into nursing and graduated from the General Entry Master’s program at Rush University. As a Registered Nurse, she worked on an inpatient medical-surgical unit with a focus on patients receiving organ transplants, as a research nurse at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and as Instructor in the College of Nursing (CON) at Rush University. She also earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Rush University. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the CON and works as a family nurse practitioner with faculty practice. Her current clinical practice focuses on shelter-based care for people experiencing homelessness and primary care with a specialty in substance-use disorder.
