Dr. Geis is board certified as a Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and an Adult Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, with doctoral preparation in Systems Leadership nursing. She has held a number of clinical, administrative, academic and consulting roles, including director of a hospital-based psychiatric home care program, member of a United Nations team investigating war crimes in the former Yugoslavia, and program development consultant.
She teaches in both the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner DNP program as well as in the direct entry master’s program.
Her current administrative and clinical practice is as the Director of Integrated Health at Trilogy Behavioral Healthcare, a community mental health center in Chicago. She provides leadership to the integrated health clinic, wellness programming, and the nursing professionals based in the clinic, residential, and outreach programs, as well as serving as liaison for the academic practice partnership with Rush University College of Nursing. Her current clinical practice incorporates both individual and group modalities, and includes psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and health promotion with a population of individuals with mental illness, multiple medical comorbidities, and substance use disorders.
Her work in developing the model of integrated health at Trilogy, which provides highly coordinated co-located behavioral health, primary care, and wellness services to people with mental illness, has informed her work in creating interprofessional continuing education curricula, including a 6 week online 20-hour program for licensed professionals working in integrated health settings.
