Residency Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the Integrated Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency program at Rush University Medical Center. The program accepts two residents per year from medical schools across the world. The residency program participates in the American Association of Medical Colleges electronic residency application system (ERAS). All applicants must use this method or the Plastic Surgery Common Application (PSCA) to apply to our residency program.

Application Requirements and Deadline

  • Photograph

  • Personal statement

  • Dean’s Letter

  • Medical School Transcript

  • Minimum of 3 letters of recommendation (maximum of 4). We encourage the use of the AOA Standardized Letter of Recommendation

  • United States Medical Licensing Exam Step 1 score (USMLE)

Apart from the ERAS requirements (listed above), no supplemental information is required. Applicants must be graduates of a Liaison Committee on Medical Education-accredited program. We do not sponsor visas. The ERAS application deadline is September 26, 2023. The PSCA application deadline is September 16, 2023.

Resident Selection

The final selection and ranking is conducted by the Residency Selection Committee. Residents are selected on the basis of their academic accomplishments and personal character. You will be notified by ERAS scheduler if you are selected for an interview. The majority of invitations will be sent at the beginning of November. An invitation to interview does not guarantee a spot, so please schedule in ERAS promptly. Interviews will be held on December 7, 2023 and January 10, 2024 with an opportunity for applicants to meet the faculty and current residents.

ACAPS

ACAPS stands for the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons. This organization has many helpful resources for medical students interested in Plastic Surgery residency programs. Click here for their student resources page!
