Rush University Honors Excellence in Mentoring, Research and Service at Faculty Excellence Awards Celebration

Rush University celebrated the achievements of its faculty at the Faculty Excellence Awards Reception on June 17.

The event was an opportunity for the Rush University community to connect with their colleagues, reflect on their contributions and recognize the remarkable work advancing education, research and service.

This year Rush University introduced the inaugural President’s Lifetime Achievement award. This new honor is now the highest award at the university. Three distinguished faculty members were recognized for exemplifying extraordinary accomplishment, sustained leadership and service.  

President’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Robert A. Balk, MD, professor emeritus, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine

Diane M, Howard, PhD, FACHE, professor and chair, Department of Health Systems Management, College of Health Sciences

Christine M. Kennedy, PhD, RN, FAAN, the John L. and Helon Kellogg Dean, College of Nursing  

Rush also recognized seven Faculty Excellence Award recipients, numerous new academic appointments and promotions, scholarly and research achievements, competitive grant awards and faculty members who have taken on leadership roles within the university, profession and broader community.

Excellence in Community Service  

Christie Lawrence, DNP, APRN, CNS, RNC-NIC, CNL, CHSE, assistant professor, Department of Women, Children and Family Nursing, College of Nursing

Excellence in Education  

Jennifer Rousseau, DNP, WHNP-BC, CNE, FAWHONN, associate professor, College of Nursing

Excellence in Mentoring  

Lena Al-Harthi, PhD, vice dean of Research; head of Division of Translational Science; chair of the Department of Microbial Pathogens and Immunity, Rush Medical College; and director of the Rush Initiative to Maximize Student Development

Diane M. Howard, PhD, FACHE, professor and chair, Department of Health Systems Management, College of Health Sciences

Michael Schoney, PhD, associate professor, Department of Community, Systems and Mental Health Nursing, College of Nursing

Excellence in Research  

Jori Fleisher, MD, MSCE, FAAN, associate professor, Neurological Sciences, Rush Medical College
