Integration of informatics for patient-reported outcomes: Installed kiosks for audio-computer assisted self interviews. Assessed patients’ self-reported outcomes and symptom burden. Integrated these primary self-reported data with a research data warehouse.
Surveillance and public health informatics: Dr. Trick has been involved in building and maintaining a research data warehouse. A primary goal is to use data captured in the EHR to automate infection detection. Such algorithmic detection has proved to be more reliable, and more efficient than manual determinations. In response to a regional increase in carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, we developed a state-wide bidirectional alert system (the Illinois XDRO Registry). Hospital admissions are sent to the registry and matched using encrypted IDs. Infection control professionals are notified about patient admissions. Notification occurs within 1 hour of patient admission.
