Thomas J. Nielsen, MD, a Chicago native and an attending physician at Rush for more than 25 years, sees adults and children with all general ear, nose and throat problems. He graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University and received his medical degree from Rush University, where he also completed his otolaryngology residency. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. Nielsen has particular interest and expertise in the management of head and neck endocrine disorders, including thyroid and parathyroid tumors. He helped establish the Coleman Foundation Comprehensive Head and Neck Cancer Clinic at Rush, which brings together a team of experts to manage cancers involving the head and neck. Other areas of interest include management of all types of both benign and malignant salivary gland tumors, voice disorders (including management of vocal cord paralysis), nasal and sinus disorders, and sleep apnea. Research interests include reduction of morbidity and improvement of quality of life in people with head and neck cancers.
