Sobia Hassan MD, MRCP, RhMSUS, is an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Rush Medical College and is Director of the Rheumatology Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic. Hassan is a graduate of the University of Nottingham (UK) and has completed residencies in both the UK and at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in NY. She completed her rheumatology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University, MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. She has been an attending rheumatologist at Rush University since 2016 and is a full time clinician seeing patients with a wide variety of rheumatologic conditions. Hassan has a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound and she passed the American College of Rheumatology’s ultrasound credentialing examination in 2015. She has developed a structured and longitudinal musculoskeletal ultrasound curriculum for rheumatology fellows consisting of written material, didactic lectures, hands-on-training sessions and one-on-one preceptorship in the ultrasound clinic. Hassan has also served as an instructor for the Fellows-in-Training Principles of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Workshop, which is conducted by the American College of Rheumatology.
Hassan has received teaching excellence awards from both medical residents and fellows and has authored several publications with trainees. She serves on a number of American College of Rheumatology committees; including the Committee on Education, the “State of the Art Meeting” planning committee and the CME Oversight Subcommittee.
