Shawna Strickland, PhD, CAE, RRT, RRT-NPS, RRT-ACCS, AE-C, FAARC, is a registered respiratory therapist with a clinical background in neonatal and pediatric intensive care and high-risk transport. After over a decade in clinical care, she transitioned into higher education, functioning as the director of clinical respiratory care education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and then as the program director for respiratory care at the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 2010, Strickland served as a clinical ethics consultant in the University of Missouri Center for Health Ethics, where she continues to serve as a Center Scholar. She is the Associate Executive Director, Programs, at the American Epilepsy Society, where she leads the clinical, research, and education divisions. Strickland joined Rush as an adjunct faculty member in 2014.
