Scott W. Schimpke, MD joins Rush as a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric surgeon. He comes from Duke University, where he completed his fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. He received his medical degree from Wayne State University and completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center. Schimpke specializes in Bariatric (weight loss) surgery using laparoscopic, robotic, and endoscopic techniques. He performs sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and duodenal switch both as a primary and revision operation.
Schimpke also specializes in laparoscopic, robotic, and endoscopic approaches in general surgery. Disease processes he treats include GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), hiatal hernias, gallbladder disorders such as gallstones and cholecystitis, small bowel obstructions, abdominal wall hernias, and groin hernias. He is active both in the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
