Najia Shakoor, MD, is a Professor of Rheumatology at Rush Medical College. She earned a combined BS/MD degree through a 6 year program from Kent State University and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. She completed both her residency and fellowship training at Rush University Medical Center. Shakoor spent much of her career primarily as a clinical investigator evaluating somatosensory function, biomechanics and biomechanical interventions for osteoarthritis. Her group was the first to demonstrate the presence of vibratory deficits in osteoarthritis as well as one of the first to evaluate role of footwear in knee osteoarthritis biomechanics. Shakoor now serves as the Director of Scholarly Activity for the Department of Medicine residency program as well as the Scholar role leader for the medical school, therefore, splitting her professional time with patient care, research and education.
