Michael Klem, PhD, is a medical physicist with specialized training in therapeutic radiological physics. He earned his PhD in Medical Physics from Purdue University, where his research focused on the development of radioacoustic 3D tomography for applications in pediatric cancer therapy. He also holds a Master of Science in Medical Physics from Purdue and a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a concentration in Applied Mathematics from the University of Dallas.
Klem completed his residency in Medical Physics at Rush University Medical Center, where he participated in a range of clinical and research initiatives. His clinical research at Rush included studies on the detectability of MRI-compatible fiducial markers for prostate SBRT using the Varian TrueBeam system. He has also contributed to feasibility studies on proton beam imaging and presented at multiple national conferences, including the AAPM Annual Meeting.
His research interests include advanced imaging and verification techniques in radiation therapy, radioacoustic imaging, MRI-guided radiotherapy, treatment planning quality assurance, and translational technologies for improving therapeutic outcomes in pediatric oncology. Klem brings a strong foundation in both experimental physics and clinical application, with prior experience at institutions such as Indiana University Health and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
He is an active member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and has served in leadership roles during his graduate training, including as Co-President of the Medical Physics Student Committee at Purdue University.
