Michael Hanak, MD, is a board-certified family physician who cares for patients of all ages, with an emphasis on prevention and education. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and carries a second board certification in clinical informatics through the American Board of Preventive Medicine. His interests lie in health information technology and its role in improving health care delivery, particularly as it relates to managing the health of a community. Hanak has leadership roles in population health, informatics and clinical quality improvement at Rush and serves as co-chair of the medical group's quality committee. He is informed of national trends by his involvement in the AMA as a former chair of the young physician section and current service on a national commission of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Locally, he was elected to the board of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians and serves as president of district 3 for the Chicago Medical Society. His work in medical education includes service as chairperson of the IAFP CME committee and serving five years on the Illinois State Medical Society Council on Education and Health Workforce. He has been a member of the AMA-YPS maintenance of certification committee for the last four years and presently oversees medical students completing their primary care clerkship at his practice on campus.
