Drug discovery from marine sources
I have always been interested in science and the natural world. I attended Lewis University in Romeoville and obtained a BS in biology. I also worked as a pharmacy technician and was exposed to pharmaceutics early in my career. I then attended Rush University for a PhD in pharmacology. My research in ovarian cancer led me to multidisciplinary fields, such as tumor immunology and molecular pathology. After completing a fellowship in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Chicago, I started teaching pharmacology. My previous position was at Chicago State’s College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutic Sciences. I am proud to have moved back to my alma mater, Rush University as Director of Pharmacology for the Rush Medical College. My multidisciplinary background has greatly contributed to my success as a teacher in an integrated pharmacology course, and I look forward to working with other faculty and medical students. I also look forward to continuing collaborative cancer research with Animesh Barua, PhD, and his ovarian cancer laboratory.
