Cygan’s clinical work as a board certified public health nurse provides the underpinnings for her scholarship on pediatric public health issues. Her work, in clinical and scholarship, focuses on working with communities, health care providers and young people to implement evidence-based programs that improve population health outcomes. Much of Cygan’s work has focused on adolescent sexual health and obesity prevention and management. Her work takes place in a variety of settings, from primary care offices to schools.
Cygan received her BSN from the University of Michigan and her DNP from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her DNP project focused on the successful implementation of a program (Six to Success) that guides primary care providers in following nationally recognized guidelines for pediatric weight management. Cygan teaches in the GEM and DNP programs, clinical and didactic courses. Her teaching focus is on public health and policy courses.
