  • Biography

    George Fitchett, DMin, PhD, is a professor and the director of research in the Department of Religion, Health and Human Values. He also holds faculty appointments in the Department of Preventive Medicine at RUSH and in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health.

    Fitchett is a board certified chaplain (APC) and certified pastoral supervisor (ACPE). In 1990, he developed the research program in the Department of Religion, Health and Human Values, one of the first such programs in any chaplaincy department. His research has examined the relationship between religion and health in a variety of community and clinical populations. His books include Assessing Spiritual Needs and Spiritual Care in Practice: Case Studies in Healthcare Chaplaincy, which was co-edited with Steve Nolan. In 2015, he co-led a team that received grants of $4.5 million from the John Templeton Foundation to advance research literacy among health care chaplains.
