Dirk Gillespie, PhD, is a researcher focusing on the movement of ions, both in biological systems (e.g., through ion channels and during cardiac excitation/contraction coupling) and in nonbiological systems (e.g., nanofluidic devices). His research also includes theory development to improve the modeling of ion correlations. He is the author of more than 70 peer-reviewed research papers. Gillespie is also an editor at European Biophysics Journal and on the editorial board of several other journals including Channels. In his career, he has mentored eight undergraduate summer students and two postdoctoral fellows and co-supervised one graduate student.
