Claudia Hernandez, MD, joined the Department of Dermatology in May 2016 as an associate professor and active attending. She graduated from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 1996, completed an internship in Internal Medicine at University of Chicago in 1997, and her Dermatology residency in 2000 at Northwestern University Medical Center.
Hernandez’s research interests include health disparities, skin cancer and simulation in education and assessment. She was the recipient of NIH grant funding and her work was selected as a featured poster at the World Congress of Dermatology meeting in Vancouver, Canada in 2015 for her project “Improving dermatology residents ’ communication skills with non-English speaking patients via collaboration with medical interpreter services.” She was also the recipient of the International Award for Social Responsibility at the World Congress of Dermatology, Seoul, South Korea in 2011 for her project “Increasing opportunistic melanoma surveillance in underserved Hispanic communities via a dermatology partnership with health lay workers.” Hernandez has served on the editorial board for JAMA Dermatology for more than years and is the author of over a hundred published abstracts and articles.
